District Leadership
District Governor Kevin Guess
Peninsula Veterans Lions Club
Lion Kevin Guess was born in Berkeley, California and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, where he attended Dowling Catholic High School. Lion Kevin served in the US Army, attended Dakota State University and the University of Iowa before continuing working with youth in Community and Recreation Services. Lion Kevin and his wonderful partner in service, Lion Tamera, joined the group that formed the Peninsula Veterans Lions Club, serving as Charter President from 2012-2014. He has served the district in many capacities, including Executive Director, and two years each as GMT and GLT Coordinator.
Lion Kevin continues to serve with his fellow members of the Peninsula Veterans Lions Club, supporting other Clubs and Lions’ service projects that serve the community continues to be his favorite part of being a Lion.
Lion Kevin graduated and was recently certified from LCI Faculty Development Institute, is a Melvin Jones Fellow, has received the District Governor’s, MD4 Region Chair, MD4 Excellence, MD4 GAT Membership, MD4 GLT Leadership Awards, and the MD4 Outstanding Global Leadership Coordinator Award and LCI Presidents Medal.
Lion Kevin looks forward to serving with the members of District 4-C4, our Multiple District, and Lions throughout the world. He continues to thoroughly embrace all things Lions and embodies his theme: “Leadership through Service” and Motto – “No Lion left behind.”
First Vice District Governor Clayton Jolley
Half Moon Bay Lions Club
Lion Clayton is a native son of California, born in the Central Valley on a ranch. He spent his high school year and spent his high school years on the eastern side of the Sierras in the beautiful Owens Valley. While in high school, he was asked to join the Independence Volunteer Fire Department as a student firefighter and never looked back.
After graduating high school Lion Clayton attended U.C. Davis where he also worked as a Student Fire Fighter and attended classes on Fire Protection at American River College. After college he worked as a firefighter at the Tracy Defense Depot before before being hired at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Fire Department where he worked his way up to Fire Captain. Still wantin gto learn and improve his skills he was recruited to apply for a position in Half Moon Bay, where he was hired and assumed the role of Battalion Chief for the Half Moon Bay Fire Protection District. With Half Moon Bay transitioning to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, he retired after decades in the fire service as a Battalion Chief for CalFire.
As the chair of Relay for Life of Half Moon Bay, Lion Clayton saw the service-oriented backbone of the Half Moon Bay Lions Club and joined them in 2009. He has enjoyed many service projects such as Rise Against Hunger, Second Harvest food delivery at St. Vincent DePaul, vision testing in the schools, and Rebuilding Together Peninsula. He has been President, Treasurer, and Membership Chair, sponsoring a number of Lions into the club. He was a Cub/Boy Scout leader in Half Moon Bay for seven years until his son discovered water polo (and girls).
Lion Clayton is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, a graduate of the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute and has been a Region and Zone Chair. He received an MD-4 Excellence Award and is the Immediate Past President of the Peninsula Council of Lions.
On his Lions journey, Lion Clayton is grateful to have the support of Mary Kay, his lovely wife of 32 years (who joined the Half Moon Bay Lions Club when Clay was inducted as President), and his son and daughter in-law, Warren & Aubrey, and daughters Eleanor and Claire.
First Vice District Governor Cindy Zheng
San Mateo Metropolitan Lions Club
Lion is Cindy Zheng, formerly a pediatric doctor, transitioned into an executive role with the financial sector. Additionally, she held the position of Assistant Dean at California North State University. Over a span of 21 years, Cindy’s Lions journey has been truly remarkable, marked by her involvement in key positions including Charter President, Club Secretary, Zone Chair, Region Chair, and Rebuilding Retention Chair. Her unwavering dedication and leadership have been instrumental in shaping the success of the Lions Clubs she’s been part of.
Cindy’s accomplishments have earned her numerous prestigious awards, including the International President’s Medal, MD-4 Excellence Award, and District Excellence Award. Lions Club membership runs in her family: her father, Tongxiao Zheng, renowned painter from Shanghai; her husband, Wayne Ma, an equity investor; her older son, Jimmy Ma, a software engineer; and her younger son, Frank Ma, a chief resident doctor, all proudly carry the Lions’ legacy.
