PDG Raymon R Kliewer Raymon and Marsha KliewerPast District Governor of 4-C4 Raymon Roy KliewerIt is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we inform everyone of the passing of Burlingame Lions Club Past District Governor Raymon Roy Kliewer. Ray passed away at the age of 87 on Friday, March 28, 2014, at his second home in La Quinta, California, following a long term illness. Lion PDG Ray is survived by his loving wife, Lion Marsha of Foster City, as well as son, Randall and daughter, Misty. He also leaves behind several grand children and great grandchildren. PDG Ray owned the Burlingame British Car Dealership in Burlingame and had also served as a past director for the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce. Lion PDG Ray loved cars, but turned to real estate later in life.Lion PDG Ray was a proud member of the Burlingame Lions Club for 47 years and served in just about every leadership position within the club. Known affectionately as “Handsome Ray,” he served as President of the Burlingame Lions Club from 1973-1974 and also served as Governor of District 4-C4 in 1987-1988. PDG Ray was always an active member of the Burlingame Lions Club and was recently involved in leading the Burlingame Lions Club’s Membership Committee, helping to bring in new members into his club and into the Lions Family. For his service to his local club, Lion PDG Ray was recognized and honored as a “Life Member” by the Burlingame Lions Club. For his years of dedication in service to his club, his community and those less fortunate in the world, Lion PDG Ray was awarded the highest honor bestowed by Lions Clubs International and received the “Ambassador of Good Will” Medal. Lion Ray was truly a “Man of Service” and left his mark, leaving us in a better world through his words, his deeds, his ideals and his actions.  Memorial Services honoring Ray’s life will be held at the Lifemark Center at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Blvd., San Mateo, CA., on Monday, April 7, 2014 (refer to their website at “www.skylawnmemorialpark.com” for directions). Viewing will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by services at 1:00 pm. A reception will be held immediately following the services at the memorial site. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ray’s name be made to the Lions Eye Foundation of California/Nevada, P.O Box 7999 San Francisco, CA., 94120 (“lionseyefoundation.com”), the local chapter of the American Heart Association or to the Burlingame Lions Club Hall Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 206, Burlingame, CA., 94011. From PDG Ray’s January 1988 newsletter:”I believe in Lionism.I believe that men of good will, living under the many flags of freedom throughout the world, when joined together by the bonds of fellowship and understnading as brother LIONS, can build peace in our time and for our children and our children’s children. To be the most important paragraph in the LIONS Code of Ethics is that which says, “To aid my fellow man by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.” To me the most worthy of the LIONS Objects is “To create and foster a spirit of generous consideration among the peoples of the world. . .” Today distances have shrunk to the point that what happens anywhere in the world diretly affects each one of us, and the great prescepts of Service and Understanding have become challenges for International Service and International Understanding. I Believe in “We Serve” as our motto and “We Understand” as our goal. I Believe not only in international service, but in learning to understand the customs, the traditions, the problems aand the thinking of our fellow LIONS beyond our national borders, as forces for world peace.I Believe in Lionism.International Director Lion Maurice Perstein wrote this long ago,. It will never be outdated. “
