Youth Protection Policy Updates

Dear Lions of District 4-C4,

At last Saturday’s District Meeting, we shared important updates regarding changes to Youth Protection Laws. These updates require immediate action from all clubs to ensure compliance.

I am the current Youth Protection Officer and I am available to assist with any questions; however, all required documents must be submitted to the district email address: 4C4YPP@gmail.com.

To avoid being placed in Status Quo, the following requirements must be completed no later than 5:00 PM on March 9:

  1. Every club must designate a Youth Protection Officer.
  2. Every Leo Club must have two Leo Advisors listed in the Lions Portal.
  3. All Leo Advisors must complete Live Scan fingerprinting.
  4. All Leo Advisors must complete California Mandated Reporter Training and submit their completion certificate to 4C4YPP@gmail.com.
  5. One Leo Advisor must submit a current DMV driving record and proof of insurance.

Additionally, please note the following highlights from the updated laws:

  • No photos of youth or Leos may be taken or posted on social media or club websites without parent or guardian consent.
  • If youth or Leos are volunteering at an event where alcohol will be served, parents or guardians must be provided at least 30 days’ advance notice.

These requirements are not optional. Compliance is mandatory under state law, and failure to meet these deadlines may result in the club being placed in Status Quo.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and for your continued commitment to protecting the young people we serve.
